Why can’t I apply for MicroFIT?

The Ontario MicroFIT Program doesn’t allow solar modules with a thermal output to be eligible for participation.

What are “Suns”?

When talking about solar concentration, the measurement is usually in “Suns” – and the light intensity on a solar cell is called the number of Suns where 1 Sun corresponds to standard illumination at 1000W/m2. This example, 1000W/m2, represents the average intensity of the sun at sea level. For rating module concentration capabities a Low Solar Concentration ranges from 2-100 Suns, Medium Solar Concentration is ~100-300 Suns and a High Solar Concentration is ~300-1000 Suns.

What do I need to know about auxiliary components (Inverters, Charge Controllers etc.)?

CGE’s smart controller takes care of everything, each smart controller can handle 1-8 Modules and easily stored in one cabinet.

How big of a system do I need?

The size of the system depends on how much power you consume and how much electricity you want to store and what kind of application (Off Grid , Grid Tie). Visit the Size Calculator to see how much electricity you consume and how many modules and batteries you’ll require. CGE recommends for typical consumers a Solar Optic Module System with 4 modules and 10kW battery storage.

Why invest in Net-Metering/Grid Tie?

You can use your own energy first and if there is any left over you can make some income on it to reduce your energy bill (because there are still delivery fees and other constant charges from your utility provider)

What happens in the winter?

Although the solar energy does vary by season, despite popular belief, the efficiencies of your panel are better in the winter.

What happens in a power failure?

CGE’s controller will recognize the power failure and it will trigger the transfer switch to battery back-up/ load displacement.
